TownRock Energy and a local engineering partner provided an assessment of geothermal energy potential of the flooded coal mines beneath the community of Inverness, north Cape Breton. A number of potential borehole locations were scoped, and a phased approach to exploring, developing and operating a minewater heating and cooling network for a new development in the north of the town was presented to the Municipality, with scope to expand the scheme to the wider community. The results are promising, and the client is interested to proceed to exploratory drilling and development.
