  • December 01, 2017

Date:  Nov 2017 – Dec 2017
Location: Midlothian, Scotland
Client: Public Sector
Stage: Pre-feasibility

This study comprised an assessment of the potential mine water heating resource within flooded coal mines for commercial customers situated in the Sherwood Industrial Estate as well as a primary school near Bonnyrigg.

The project was funded by the Low Carbon Infrastructure Programme (LCIP) managed by Scottish Enterprise as part of a wider project to assess the feasibility of a district energy scheme to supply a proportion of power, heating and cooling requirements to key stakeholders in the area. The high-level results were promising:

CAPEX = £430,000; 40-year NPV of £2,660,000; 40-year IRR of 13.5%; payback = 4 years
