Stage: Pre-feasibility
TRE and partners (Locogen and Bizcat) provided an assessment of all of the potential renewable energy resources and associated development technologies available at five parks across Falkirk and North Lanarkshire. In the first phase, TRE provided resource assessments of the closed-loop and open-loop ground-source heat pump potential, including mine water geothermal, and of the surface water thermal energy available from lochs, lakes, canals and rivers. In the second phase TRE progressed a suite of preferred options to high-level business case, scaling boreholes arrays and surface water heat pumps to match the nearby addressable heat demand, and project cashflow for these options. Risks, development timescales and next steps were all highlighted.
