Description: TRE have undertaken a geological assessment and options appraisal for low carbon heat distribution across multiple college campus buildings. The assessment analysed closed loop and open loop shallow geothermal options, and air source heat pumps as the counterfactual. Our findings identified that a closed loop ground source heat pump system would deliver optimal cost and carbon savings for the client. The recommended next steps by TRE are to progress with a trial borehole and further investigate the integration of a ground source heat pump system within the college buildings, in the context of a feasibility study.
