TRE sourced data pertaining to the extent of coal mining in East Lothian and, with an understanding of the hydrogeology of the interconnected mined seams, was able to plot locations across the area which were most suitable for mine water geothermal development. The project was conducted to inform the council on where to invest and develop with mine water heating/cooling at the heart of the district heating network. The project was very well received and has informed the decision to pursue one of the most favourable sites.
