TRE was contracted to conduct an appraisal of low-carbon heat network options for the town of Bildeston, a second project funded through the Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF). A combination of geological and hydrological assessments, as well as analysis of low-carbon heating technology options, were reported to the client. The area boasted strong aquifer potential with good estimations of flow rate available, thus multiple technology options were presented: either an open loop water source heat pump system or a closed loop ground source system with the contribution of air source heat pumps as part of a hybrid configuration.
