Ref: TownRock Support on the Grangemouth Energy Project

Dear David,

I would just like to thank both you and your team for supporting the delivery of the Grangemouth Energy Project. As we both know it was a very challenging piece of work in an exciting and fast developing sector your technical input and expertise with a particular focus on Geothermal Energy was invaluable.

Throughout the project I was impressed with the professionalism and quality of the work that you produced and even more so by the dedication and commitment you and Raymond demonstrated, you really did go ‘the extra mile’.

Within Mace we are always striving to find a better way while keeping a focus on meeting the demands of our clients something that was also clearly evident in the approach of TownRock Energy.

I look forward to working with you again in the future and wish you good fortune as you continue to grow the business.

Yours sincerely,

Euan Harrison

Dear Energy Academy,

Nomination of David Townsend for the Energy entrepreneurship category, The Heriot-Watt Scottish Energy News ‘Researcher’ of the Year Awards

I would like to nominate David Townsend for the above award.

I first met David in November 2013 and was immediately impressed by his vision, enthusiasm and commitment to the exploitation of geothermal energy in Scotland.

Since then we have met many time, sometimes at our offices here in Edinburgh, but more often at various energy conferences and workshops throughout Scotland. I have seen how his expertise and knowledge of the sector has grown significantly over the last 18 months. In that time David has certainly made his mark on the nascent geothermal industry in Scotland, as evidenced by his membership of Scottish Government’s Geothermal Energy Expert Group and various other geothermal consortia.

We in BGS Scotland believe geothermal energy has a substantial contribution to make to the renewable heat and energy storage sectors in Scotland and I am sure David will play a significant
part in getting this new industry to where it deserves to be.

David gave an illuminating talk as to the impact of global warming on the way we currently live and on what could readily be done to improve the future. He communicated on a complex and much contested topic in a way that enhanced the level of understanding yet equally gave room for the “nay sayers” to raise their points and receive an informed and challenging response. David also included an interesting overview on the potential of geothermal energy, as the much lesser known renewable energy option.

From the talk David gave and in dialogue on the topic it is evident that David is extremely knowledgeable in his chosen field and committed, with a passion, to create or ensure a viable future in relation to energy generation that does not add to global warming.  Having worked with many young entrepreneurs in recent years it was extremely heartening to meet an individual who is genuinely innovative in his knowledge and approach and who is the embodiment of the true meaning of entrepreneur.
